DOING THERAPY
Pittsburgh City Paper
Al Hoff
July 27, 2005

Pittsburgher Joe Giacobello stars in his feature debut, a romantic comedy—with a splash of thriller—about a psychologist, also named Giacobello, who takes on the case of a Hollywood actress, Diane Rischard (Barbara Winters), with crippling panic attacks. Giacobello’s unconventional solution is to install the high-maintenance gal in his tiny, messy bachelor pad—and sure enough, such close quarters do breed familiarity. It turns out that Giacobello has as many issues as Diane, and that therapy is a mutual task. Scenes involving a couple of persecuted school kids seem disjointed from the main narrative, and the thriller angle doesn’t quite find a balance with the looser feel of the burgeoning romance. Giacobello, an Erie native and an actor with some insight into stage-related panic attacks, shot the film entirely in the Pittsburgh area—which is critical once you discover one of the pair has a bridge phobia to boot. 7:30 p.m. Thu., July 28. $5. Loews. 412-299-6926 (AH)
