PITTSBURGH MAN TO HOST 'LONELIEST SINGLE GUY AND GAL IN AMERICA' CONTEST PITTSBURGH, PA – July 11, 2003 – Joe Giacobello, a Pittsburgh actor, comedian and screenwriter, will host “The Loneliest Single Guy and Gal in America” contest on September 6, 7 p.m., at the Rex Theatre in the South Side of Pittsburgh. Proceeds will benefit The Children's Institute in Pittsburgh. “The idea came to me after Forbes magazine named Pittsburgh the worst place in the U.S. to be single, for the second year in a row,” said Giacobello, founder of Bello Productions, an independent film production company based in Pittsburgh. “I thought to myself, we can either complain about this, or we can do something to show America that at least we've got a sense of humor about it. This unique contest will actually make it cool to be single and lonely in the 'Burgh.” Unlike typical reality TV shows, which focus on only the most attractive, successful singles, Giacobello's contest will feature the loneliest, most desperate singles he can find. “This is their chance to be in the spotlight, to have a little fun and to win some great prizes,” he said. Ten finalists—the top five males and females who ace a preliminary e-mail essay contest—will compete at the main event at the Rex Theatre on September 6 (contest entry deadline: August 30). The evening will include a talent contest, swimsuit competition, Giacobello's own version of The Dating Game, some very funny comedians and more. Grand-prize winners will receive a Captain's Dinner Dance Cruise aboard Pittsburgh's beautiful Gateway Clipper. Runners up will receive additional prizes.
