Erie native Joe Giacobello's romantic comedy, "Doing Therapy," has been selected for screening at the Delray Beach Film Festival, to be held in March 2006 in Delray Beach, Fla.
Giacobello, who now lives in Pittsburgh, wrote and directed the full-length film to raise public awareness about panic and anxiety attacks. He also appears in the movie, along with actress Barabara Winters and other Pittsburgh actors.
Giacobello is a 1981 graduate of Cathedral Prep and appeared frequently in productions at the Erie Playhouse and Roadhouse Theatre. In fact, the plot of "Doing Therapy" was based on an experience he had while performing at the Playhouse.
Set in Pittsburgh, the film tells the story of a high-class Hollywood actress (Winters) who suddenly experiences panic attacks. She's sent to an expert but rather offbeat psychologist in Pittsburgh, played by Giacobello.
To avoid media attention, the unlikely couple is stuck in the psychologist's sloppy bachelor pad for a month. Enter a crazed stalker, fear of bridges, and other unexpected twists, and you've got "Doing Therapy."
